A Friday afternoon disturbance on San Antonio's South Side ended in gunfire that left a man in his 50s in critical condition and another person detained at the scene, according to police. Detectives quickly locked down the area as they opened an investigation that was still unfolding late Friday.
Scene and police response
The San Antonio Police Department told KSAT the shooting followed a disturbance around 4:30 p.m. in the 300 block of East Young Avenue near South Flores Street. The victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, and officers detained one person as they secured the scene.
Late Friday, detectives had not released the names of those involved or said what they believe sparked the disturbance, as they continued to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
Citywide pattern of shootings
The shooting adds to a growing list of gun incidents across San Antonio this month that have left multiple people wounded and at least one person dead, the San Antonio Express-News reported. Police are handling several separate investigations amid a broader spring uptick in gun violence around the city.
Investigators seek witnesses
Detectives are asking anyone who saw the disturbance or who has surveillance or cellphone video from the area to contact the San Antonio Police Department.
