Nearly a year and a half after a deadly crash on Southern Boulevard shook Palm Beach County law enforcement, prosecutors have filed charges against the driver they say is responsible for the deaths of three sheriff’s motor deputies.
State Attorney Alexcia Cox announced on April 30, 2026, that Corrinne Blue is now facing three counts of vehicular homicide, one for each deputy who died in the November 21, 2024 collision, according to WPTV. The crash happened while the deputies were working a traffic detail on the shoulder of Southern Boulevard, and it triggered a months-long Florida Highway Patrol investigation.
Investigation and crash details
A preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol found that the vehicle involved was a Jeep Grand Cherokee with Pennsylvania plates. Investigators say the driver was traveling about 65 mph in a 55 mph zone before veering onto the shoulder and hitting the deputies, who had stopped in the 18000 block of Southern Boulevard just west of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, according to WPBF.
Two deputies were pronounced dead at the scene. The third, Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz, died days later, CBS Miami reported.
What the charges mean
Under Florida law, vehicular homicide is defined as causing a death while operating a motor vehicle in a reckless manner that is likely to cause death or great bodily harm. The offense is spelled out in Florida Statute 782.071, as published by Justia.
A conviction for a second-degree felony can carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison under Florida’s sentencing statutes. The range of possible penalties is outlined by the Florida Senate.
Community response and next steps
The crash drew intense public attention across Palm Beach County and prompted memorials for the fallen deputies. Officials later dedicated a stretch of Southern Boulevard as the “PBSO Motorman Highway” in their honor, according to reporting from the Boca Post.
With charges now filed, the case moves into the county’s court system. Prosecutors and the sheriff’s office did not immediately release further details on upcoming court dates when the announcement was made.
