Square Pie Guys has quietly slipped into the pizza spot at San Pedro Social, taking over from longtime operator Slice of Homage in downtown San Jose. The swap brings a Detroit-style pie option to the entertainment complex, serving crowds headed to SAP Center shows and late-night diners looking for one more slice before calling it a night.
According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the changeover was completed this month, and owner Marc Schechter said the downtown spot will "test how San Jose responds to the brand." The test is already front and center on San Pedro Social's homepage, which now proclaims "Now serving Square Pie Guys," confirming the menu switch at the venue.
Square Pie Guys' local footprint
Square Pie Guys has been steadily expanding across the Bay Area and lists several locations on its site, including Campbell and Palo Alto. As outlined by Square Pie Guys, the chain focuses on pan-baked, Detroit-style pies. Coverage of its Campbell debut highlighted a packed grand opening and giveaways for the first 100 customers, as reported by WhatNow.
Slice Of Homage's run and next steps
Slice of Homage had run its "Slices by Slice of Homage" counter at San Pedro Social since 2022, then later expanded into a standalone location in Sunnyvale, according to local reporting. The Almanac profiled owner Steven Barrantes and his multi-style pizza approach when that Sunnyvale restaurant opened.
Why the swap matters
The replacement highlights how regional pizza concepts are jockeying for downtown foot traffic and event-driven business in San Jose. As reported by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, Schechter said he is eyeing further expansion toward Milpitas and Fremont, making the San Pedro Social outpost a key test case for broader South Bay growth.
