A quiet Sunday morning in Northwest Portland was cut short when gunfire rang out near Northwest Davis Street and Northwest 8th Avenue, sending one person to the hospital and prompting officers to tape off part of the neighborhood. Police were called to the scene at about 10:15 a.m., and investigators spread through the area looking for shell casings, surveillance video, and anyone who might have seen or heard what happened.
According to KOIN, one person was taken to the hospital after officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:15 a.m. Neighbors told the station they were jolted awake by "about 5 or 6 shots," and any suspect or suspects were still on the loose as the investigation unfolded.
Citywide gun-violence trends
Per Portland's Ceasefire monthly report, the 12-month rolling average of injury and fatal shooting incidents was down roughly 31% as of January 2026. The Ceasefire effort pairs outreach workers with law enforcement to focus on the highest-risk conflicts and conduct shooting reviews, even as isolated shootings like Sunday’s continue to crop up in neighborhoods across the city.
What investigators are still looking for
Portland police had not released any suspect descriptions or a case number, and no arrests were reported at the scene, KOIN reported. The outlet noted the story was still developing and would be updated as detectives share more details. Officials did not immediately provide additional information late Sunday.
