Police evacuated nearby residents and shut down a stretch of Southeast Division Street while officers worked to lock down the scene.
In a press release shared on X via Portland Police, the bureau said its Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were called out for an "armed person in crisis" after Portland Fire & Rescue crews reported smoke coming from an apartment and were confronted by a suspect with an edged weapon. According to the post, traffic on Southeast Division Street east of Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard is blocked, nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution, and no injuries were reported.
