
A 43-year-old woman was killed Sunday night after she was struck by a vehicle near the United Center on the Near West Side, according to Chicago police. Officers responded around 9 p.m. to the 10-100 block of South Ashland Avenue, where a silver SUV hit the pedestrian as she crossed the street. She suffered head trauma and was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.
As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, a 17-year-old female driver told officers she was traveling eastbound on Ogden Avenue in the silver SUV when the collision occurred and said the pedestrian crossed against the signal. A witness told police the teen had the right of way because the traffic light was green. According to the initial report, no citations were pending at that time.
