Boston travelers heading to Logan will soon have another way to get to their gate without playing surge-pricing roulette. Uber is rolling out a scheduled shuttle to Boston Logan Airport, with two fixed routes serving Cambridge and central Boston. The service is set to run departures about every half hour for roughly 10 hours a day, and riders book seats in the Uber app. Promotional pricing starts at $3 during the first week, rising to $10 in the first month and $15 after that.
According to Uber, the Cambridge route will scoop up riders in Porter Square, Harvard Square, Central Square, MIT and Kendall Square, while the Boston line will stop in Allston, at Boston University, Kenmore Square and North Station. Uber says riders can reserve up to five seats, track a shuttle in real time and board by scanning a QR code in the app. The company also notes that its shuttle program already runs at New York area airports.
As reported by CBS Boston, Uber says riders will receive a "Ticket to Skip" that the company claims grants faster access to TSA screening. CBS Boston also notes that passengers will be able to tip and rate drivers through the app. The outlet reports that the service is being timed to help move fans and visitors during a packed summer of events.
Why the Massport Deal Matters
The launch follows a 2025 agreement between Massport and ride hail companies that capped app surcharges and asked Uber and Lyft to develop urban shuttle options, according to WBUR. Massport officials said the added revenue from higher fees was intended to fund capital projects, parking upgrades and roadway fixes while nudging travelers toward higher occupancy trips. Local leaders and drivers pushed back during the negotiations, but Massport has repeatedly emphasized congestion relief around Logan as a top priority.
How It Stacks Up Against Other Options
Massport documents show Logan Express already offers an urban Back Bay run that costs $3 to the airport and is free on the return trip to Back Bay, and the MBTA's Silver Line provides fare free service from Logan into downtown, according to Massport. For commuters and budget minded travelers, that combo will often stay the cheapest play, while Uber's shuttle is clearly aiming at riders willing to pay a modest fare for a guaranteed, reserved seat. Massport says expanding HOV and shuttle options is part of a broader effort to cut traffic around the terminals.
When And Where To Hop On
To ride, travelers select the Shuttle option in the Uber app and pick a scheduled departure. Uber notes that seats can be reserved up to three days in advance and tracked in real time. Riders are advised to arrive at the designated pickup point a few minutes early and may bring one piece of luggage plus a personal item, according to the company. For exact stop locations and the latest schedules, Uber directs users to check the shuttle information in the app.
Whether this becomes a long term Logan staple or just a short lived summer experiment will hinge on rider demand and how it fits alongside Logan Express and the free Silver Line. For now, it simply adds another way to get to and from the airport during what is shaping up to be a very busy travel season.
