Authorities say a woman was killed Sunday when a train struck her on the tracks just south of Pauls Valley. State troopers and local emergency crews shut down a nearby rail crossing as investigators combed a wooded section of the line. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the cause of the deadly collision is still under investigation.
Troopers Detail Fatal Collision
Trooper Isidro Barrios told KOCO the woman had been walking south on the railroad tracks when she was hit just before 2 p.m. He said the impact occurred in a wooded area that could not be seen from the road. Troopers stayed at the scene as they collected evidence and coordinated with other agencies.

News 9 reported the crash occurred near U.S. 77 and County Road 1610, just south of Pauls Valley in Garvin County. Officials said the nearby crossing by East County Road 1550 was closed for hours while crews worked. Authorities had not released the victim's name in initial reports as family notifications and the investigation continued.

Emergency units, including the Pauls Valley Fire Department and the Garvin County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene, and a BNSF Railway vehicle was spotted near the crossing, according to KOCO. Neighbors told reporters they did not see the collision but said similar incidents have occurred along that stretch of track. Troopers urged residents to stay off railroad tracks and to report any information that might help investigators as the inquiry continues.
