Lynn is getting its Dairy Queen back. After more than three decades away from Broadway, the ice cream and burger chain is slated to return at 414 Broadway, with the franchise team aiming to open before June 30, 2026, as construction and permitting wrap up. Hiring is already underway for crew members, cashiers and kitchen staff.
The plan is already on the city’s radar. A Lynn City Council agenda that sets a public hearing for June 17, 2025, lists a “petition of Chintan Patel to open a Dairy Queen food service establishment” at 414 Broadway, according to the Lynn City Council agenda. The filing has been sent to the committee on licensing while the applicant works through the required permits and approvals.
The franchisee told What Now Boston that “we are so excited to open a new Dairy Queen in our community,” and the outlet reports the team is actively recruiting staff while work continues on the space. What Now Boston also notes that the group plans to share construction progress and opening-day details on Facebook and Instagram as launch day gets closer.
What's on the menu
When the doors open, Lynn customers can expect the same national promotions rolling out elsewhere. Dairy Queen recently debuted a “Swicy” menu that pairs a spicy FlameThrower chicken strip basket with cool vanilla soft serve for dipping, along with Tajín-topped pineapple lemonade beverages, a sweet-meets-heat combo being promoted at participating locations. A Dairy Queen press release describes the promotion and notes the items are available at participating Grill & Chill restaurants.
Back on Broadway
The comeback also taps into some local history. Commercial reports show that a later Walgreens building in Wyoma Square was constructed on the site of an earlier Dairy Queen at 290 Broadway, underscoring the chain’s old ties to the strip. NEREJ documents the Walgreens replacement, while local leaders point to new food and retail openings as a way to help steady downtown foot traffic and create more entry-level jobs.
What to watch next
Dairy Queen traces its roots to Joliet, Illinois, in 1940 and now operates thousands of locations worldwide as a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, according to company history resources. Wikipedia summarizes the brand’s founding and long franchise history. Residents and job seekers keeping an eye out for hiring notices, soft openings or license approvals should watch the Lynn franchise’s social media pages and the city’s licensing calendar for formal updates.
