Yesterday in Benbrook turned tragic when a man was killed and a woman was injured after both were shocked in a backyard in the 9100 block of Benview Court, just outside Fort Worth, shortly after 1 p.m., authorities said. Deputies responded to reports that two people had been electrocuted, and both victims were rushed to a local hospital. The man was later pronounced dead, while the woman was treated for minor injuries.
According to The Dallas Morning News, deputies found both victims in the backyard. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said utility crews with Oncor cut power to the property while investigators worked the scene. Detectives are still trying to determine exactly how the pair came into contact with the power source.
First Responders At The Scene
Benbrook Fire Chief Jason Tate told CBS News Texas that one victim was transported by a Benbrook Fire Department ambulance in critical condition and the other was taken by Fort Worth Fire Department crews in stable condition. Tate said he was unsure of those details as Tarrant County criminal investigators took over the case.
Power Outage And Traffic Impacts
The electrocution did not just rattle one neighborhood. It also triggered power interruptions across parts of Benbrook, with the outage map maintained by Oncor's Storm Center showing customers without service. Local coverage from Benbrook Life reported that several traffic signals went dark and backups formed along Highway 377. Officials said crews worked to isolate the energized line and restore service while investigators secured the scene.
Investigation And Next Steps
Tarrant County criminal investigators are leading the inquiry, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to release the victim's name and the official cause of death, CBS News Texas reports. Authorities have not released any additional information about the power source involved or whether any safety violations might be at issue.
