Traffic along a busy stretch of Miami Beach came to an abrupt stop Sunday after police pulled a body from the water near Indian Creek Drive and 43rd Street, prompting a full-blown investigation on the canal’s edge.
Officers at the scene covered the person with a yellow tarp as investigators combed the area for clues. Authorities have not released the person’s identity or said how they died.
According to WSVN, police shut down part of Indian Creek Drive at 43rd Street while detectives worked. The station reported that it had contacted local officials seeking more details.
Where It Happened
Indian Creek Drive runs alongside a narrow canal separating parts of Mid‑Beach from inland residential neighborhoods, lined with docks and small marinas. The City of Miami Beach has been carrying out flood‑mitigation and road‑raising work along Indian Creek Drive between 25th and 41st streets, according to a city project page.
Recent Water Incidents Nearby
The waters around Indian Creek have seen tragedy before. In late March, a boat collided with a small dinghy in Biscayne Bay near Indian Creek and Biscayne Pointe, killing a man and sending his teenage son to the hospital, as investigators searched for the vessel involved. NBC6 reported that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released images of a boat and asked the public for help.
Investigation Ongoing
Miami Beach police have not released additional details about Sunday’s discovery, and it was not immediately clear whether the death is being treated as suspicious. 7News reported that it had reached out to authorities as detectives continued to work the scene.
