Voters in Anthony and San Elizario are set to decide who runs the local show today, as residents head to the polls for the May uniform election. Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and county officials say they will post results as precincts report. The ballot may be short, but it will decide town council seats and school district trustee positions that control local budgets and day to day services.
Where to vote and what's on the ballot
According to the El Paso County Elections Department, vote centers for the May uniform election include Anthony Town Hall (401 Wildcat Dr.), the City of San Elizario Municipal Court (12004 Socorro Rd., Suite B), and the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse (500 E. San Antonio Ave.). Voters can look up a personalized sample ballot using the county's interactive tool on DemocracyLive.
Mail ballots, curbside drop-off and hand-delivery
If you think your mail ballot will not make it back in time, you can hand-deliver your carrier envelope to the Early Voting Clerk at the county elections office during polling hours, KVIA reports. The County Elections Department takes hand-delivered ballots at 500 E. San Antonio Ave., Suite 314, and offers a curbside drop-off lane on Campbell Street next to the courthouse. Voters must show an acceptable form of identification to use the curbside option. If you already voted by mail but decide to cast a ballot in person, bring your carrier envelope to surrender it at the polling place.
How to track results
The county plans to publish unofficial early voting and election day tallies, precinct-by-precinct breakdowns, and turnout statistics on its election night page, according to the El Paso County Elections Department. Local outlets are expected to update results throughout the evening as precincts report and numbers are refreshed.
Why this little election matters
The May uniform election may only cover a slice of the borderland, but the offices on the ballot - council seats and school board trustees - decide how local dollars are allocated and which services take priority. These low-profile, low-turnout races often end up shaping city and school policies in lasting ways, as El Paso Matters has noted in its coverage of similar contests.
