What started as a quiet Saturday evening on Box Circle in Winder turned into a late-night police operation when a man barricaded himself inside a home, triggering an hours-long standoff that stretched past midnight, officials said. Barrow County deputies and Winder police swarmed the neighborhood, set up a perimeter and told residents to stay away until the situation was under control. The man ultimately surrendered without incident and is now facing felony charges.
Standoff Timeline And Arrest
The response kicked off shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, when Barrow County deputies and Winder police were called to the Box Circle neighborhood. Authorities later identified the suspect as Alexander Agapi and said he surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without incident. Agapi has been charged with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats, and the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said more charges may be added as the investigation continues, according to Atlanta News First.
Neighbors And Prior Police Contacts
During the standoff, residents were urged to steer clear of the area while negotiators worked with the suspect and traffic in the neighborhood was restricted. Public property records on Homes.com list an Alexander Agapi at a Box Circle address, and an archived Barrow News-Journal police blotter shows he was arrested in 2025 on a criminal trespass warrant after a neighbor's Ring camera recorded him on a porch, according to the Barrow News-Journal.
What The Charges Mean
Agapi now faces felony counts that carry serious potential penalties under Georgia law. Making terroristic threats is defined in the state criminal code, according to Justia, and aggravated assault is described in a separate section of the code available via Justia. Depending on the circumstances, aggravated assault alone can carry a prison sentence of one to 20 years.
Investigation Continues
Investigators are still reviewing the case and have not released additional information about any victims or a possible motive, according to Atlanta News First. The Box Circle standoff comes on the heels of other serious cases in Barrow County this spring, including a deadly April robbery in Winder that left one man dead and led to multiple arrests, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
