A busted light on a pickup truck in El Paso turned into a much bigger problem on Saturday, when deputies discovered the driver was wanted in Milam County on several warrants tied to a deadly crash. According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, deputies pulled over the 60-year-old man for the broken light, ran his information, and found active out-of-county warrants. He was taken into custody on the roadside and booked into the county detention facility, where he remains held without bond.
Deputies later identified the driver as 60-year-old William Tudmon, according to KVIA. The station reports that Tudmon is wanted on multiple counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, as well as manslaughter and aggravated assault, all stemming from Milam County warrants.
The El Paso County Detention Facility serves as the main intake point for local arrests and houses people awaiting trial. The county’s official website details how booking works and how family members or attorneys can schedule visits or find other basic information. For those trying to check an inmate’s status or navigate the system, the sheriff’s detention page lists contact numbers and public guidance, according to El Paso County.
What the charges mean
Under Texas law, intoxication manslaughter applies when a person operates a vehicle while intoxicated and, because of that intoxication, causes someone else’s death. It is typically charged as a second-degree felony, which can carry significant prison time. Penalties can increase if there are prior intoxication-related convictions or other statutory enhancements. The elements of the crime and possible punishments are laid out in Texas Penal Code §49.08.
The arrest was first reported by KVIA. This story will be updated if Milam County officials or the sheriff’s office release additional details or charging documents.
