Brownsburg’s retail lineup is getting a serious upgrade as Meijer cuts the ribbon on a new 159,000-square-foot supercenter on Wednesday. The store at 9202 E. 56th Street brings the chain’s 44th Indiana location to town and aims to be a one-stop shop, with fresh produce, an in-store deli and bakery, a pharmacy drive-through and an expanded pet department.

What Meijer Is Rolling Out

Meijer announced the Brownsburg site as part of its regional growth and says the supercenter will feature departments for bakery, meat and seafood, apparel, electronics and a garden center. An adjacent Meijer Express gas station opened in early April, and the company notes the Brownsburg store joins its broader Midwest footprint, according to the Meijer Newsroom.

Opening-Week Plans And What’s Inside

Inside, shoppers will find a Higi health station for free blood-pressure and BMI checks, a pharmacy offering immunizations and health screenings, a Great Clips salon, a garden center and a bakery turning out cupcake bouquets and customizable cakes. The store is also keeping a bit of Meijer nostalgia alive with a coin-operated "penny pony" mechanical horse near the self-checkout lanes that still costs exactly one cent.

On the shelves, Meijer house brands will share space with Indiana-made products, including Little Bee Honey House honey, Breadworks by Bridges baked goods and DeBrand Fine Chocolates. Opening week will feature giveaways such as gift-card and reusable-bag promotions for the first 200 customers on select days, plus family-friendly parking-lot events over the weekend, as reported by the Indianapolis Star.

Local Impact

Town planning documents presented to the Brownsburg council estimate the Meijer development could generate roughly $480,000 a year in property-tax revenue once it is fully built out, and it is expected to add a mix of full- and part-time jobs to the area. The project has been identified in municipal planning materials as a major retail anchor for the 56th Street corridor, per the Town of Brownsburg agenda.

When To Go

The Brownsburg Meijer will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, and the nearby Meijer Express ran opening-week specials through late May, according to local coverage.
