Last Saturday night, a domestic disturbance in Cloverdale escalated into a tense standoff, ending with police arresting a man who officers say barricaded himself in a bedroom with a woman and threatened to torch the home if they came inside.

Cloverdale police say officers ultimately moved in, secured the bedroom, and took the suspect into custody while helping the woman out of the room. The person arrested was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail on multiple charges, authorities said.

Details of the incident and the booking were first shared by the department on its social media accounts, then picked up by the San Francisco Chronicle.

How The Standoff Unfolded

According to the Cloverdale Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Buckeye Circle at about 8:16 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a disturbance. When they arrived, officers say they learned the man had barricaded himself inside a bedroom with a woman.

In the department’s Facebook post, officers say they could hear the suspect threatening the victim and warning that he would burn down the house if police tried to enter. Negotiations went on long enough that officers worked to reposition him, and they say they eventually got the man to move toward a bedroom window.

Once in position, officers entered the bedroom, took the suspect into custody, and aided the woman inside, according to the department’s account of the incident.

Charges, Booking And The Investigation

The Cloverdale Police Department’s Facebook post states the suspect was booked on five charges: corporal injury to a spouse, kidnapping, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, and damaging or interrupting a communication device. The San Francisco Chronicle also reported on those listed counts and noted the suspect was booked into Sonoma County Jail.

What Happens Next

Local police say the case remains under active investigation and are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the incident to contact the Cloverdale Police Department.

The arrested person will be processed through the county jail system and is presumed innocent until charged in court and proven guilty.
