Part of downtown Portland was shut down Friday afternoon as police rushed to reports of a shooting near SW Ankeny Street and SW 1st Avenue, just southwest of the Burnside Bridge. Marked patrol cars lined the streets and crime scene tape went up around the area while officers worked the scene. As of Friday afternoon, it was still unclear whether anyone had been hurt or if a suspect was in custody.
According to KATU, officers were called to the area and tower-cam images showed a sizable police response around the intersection. KATU reported that it had reached out to the Portland Police Bureau for more details but had not received a response at the time of publication.
Recent Incidents on Ankeny
The same stretch of SW Ankeny has already seen deadly violence in recent months. The Portland Police Bureau reported a December 28, 2025 shooting on the 200 block of SW Ankeny that left one person dead and another seriously injured. Detectives from the bureau's Homicide Unit responded to that case and asked anyone with information to come forward.
What Investigators Say and What's Next
In related coverage, local outlets reported that on April 16 a suspect in the December downtown shooting was arrested in Virginia, with authorities saying the suspect will be extradited to Oregon. KPTV reported the arrest, noting that the earlier case in the area had remained active for months.
