A routine trip in Davie turned ugly on Wednesday when, according to police, a Weston couple confronted a mother over how she disciplined her 4-year-old and ended up ripping her shirt off in a University Drive parking lot.
The mother told officers her son had spat in her face, and that she responded by smacking him once on the mouth and once on his torso. What followed, she said, was not a parenting debate but a full-on attack that left her with a split lower lip and several scratch marks on her throat, according to the arrest report.
Officers were called to the parking lot in the 5400 block of University Drive after the mother reported the altercation. Police identified the suspects as 66-year-old Terry Williams of Weston and his 63-year-old wife, Mary Thalia Williams. According to officers, Terry initially told the mother he worked for the Florida Department of Children and Families, a claim authorities later said was false, since neither he nor his wife is employed by DCF, as reported by Local10.
The arrest report states that Mary Williams stepped between the mother and her vehicle, and a struggle broke out when the mother tried to move her aside. Officers say Mary scratched and choked the woman so hard the mother feared she would pass out, while Terry allegedly yanked at the mother’s hair and clothing. Police say the couple tore the woman’s shirt off, leaving her in only a bra, and that Mary then climbed into the victim’s car, shut it off and took the car keys.
Charges and custody
According to the arrest report, Mary Williams was booked on charges of simple battery and burglary and was being held at the Broward County Main Jail on a $5,000 bond. Terry Williams was charged with battery and held on a $2,500 bond, as reported by Local10. Police said the mother’s visible injuries, including multiple scratch marks on her throat and a cut on her lower lip, matched what she described to responding officers.
What happens next
The case is expected to move through the Broward County system for review and any potential formal charges beyond the initial bookings. Police did not immediately release information about upcoming court dates, and there was no immediate public comment from either of the accused, according to the arrest report.
