A quiet stretch of Southeast Stark Street turned into a homicide scene early Sunday, after an adult man was shot and later died at a local hospital. Portland police were called to the 14700 block of Southeast Stark Street around 3:11 a.m. in the Centennial neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found an adult man with serious injuries. He was treated by Portland Fire & Rescue and AMR, then taken to a hospital, where he later died, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The bureau said the suspect or suspects left before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made. The case number is 26-149773. Southeast Stark Street was shut down between SE 146th and SE 148th for hours as officers and homicide detectives worked the scene, and neighbors woke up to flashing lights and a heavy police presence. Police noted this is Portland’s seventh homicide of the year.
What investigators are doing
Detectives from the Portland Police Detective Division Homicide Unit responded and began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage. The closure of Southeast Stark between SE 146th and SE 148th allowed investigators to collect evidence without traffic rolling through the scene.
