A late-night ride on Interstate 64 in St. Louis County ended in tragedy early Thursday when a 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his bike left the roadway and hit a guardrail, authorities said.
The crash happened around 12:55 a.m. on eastbound I-64 between North Ballas Road and South Spoede Road, just east of the Interstate 270 interchange. Troopers said the motorcycle went off the right side of the highway, struck the guardrail, and the rider was ejected and died at the scene.
According to First Alert 4, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the rider lost control before leaving the roadway and colliding with the guardrail. Crews reduced eastbound traffic to a single lane while investigators worked the scene and cleared the wreckage.
Crash Location and Corridor Context
The wreck occurred along a busy stretch of I-64 near the I-270 interchange that has been a focus of ongoing construction, with lane shifts and improvement projects in the mix as state crews rebuild and upgrade portions of the corridor. MoDOT has recently announced lane shifts and bridge work along sections of I-64, activity that can complicate overnight traffic patterns and the flow of emergency response vehicles.
Investigation and Traffic Impacts
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and, as of Thursday, had not released the rider’s name, according to First Alert 4. Drivers in the area were told to expect delays during the early-morning investigation, and authorities said they plan to release additional details as they become available.
