The Thursday morning commute on State Route 347 north of Maricopa turned tragic and gridlocked when a multi-vehicle crash left one person dead, injured at least two others and shut down all northbound lanes for hours.

The collision happened just before 6:30 a.m. on northbound SR 347 near Casa Blanca Road. According to ABC15 Arizona, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said three vehicles were involved and there were at least three victims at the scene. One of those victims died from their injuries. Troopers had not immediately identified the person who died or released any information on what caused the crash, saying more details would come as the investigation moves forward.
First responders remained on scene through the morning as crews worked to treat the injured, investigate the wreck and clear the highway.

Arizona Department of Transportation incident maps showed northbound SR 347 blocked at Casa Blanca Road, forcing traffic off the highway and onto local routes. InMaricopa reported that backups stretched northbound to Smith Enke Road as drivers inched through detours. Southbound lanes were not affected while workers cleared debris and damaged vehicles from the northbound side.
