What officials say
Authorities have not yet released details about what caused the crash or how many people were involved, KTVU reports. The CHP remained on scene to investigate while tow crews worked to clear the wreckage, and officials had not announced a time for reopening the highway.
Why this stretch matters
State Route 12 through Jameson Canyon is a key connector in southern Napa County and has long been flagged for safety and congestion fixes. Local planners are pursuing improvements at the SR-29/SR-12/Airport Boulevard and SR-12/Kelly Road junctions to cut down on backups and collisions. As part of that effort, the Napa Valley Transportation Authority is advancing an alternatives analysis and environmental review for an interchange at SR-12 and Kelly Road, according to NVTA.
