Detroit is getting ready to light the fuse on summer. The Ford Fireworks are set to ignite the Detroit River on Monday, June 22, returning to downtown viewing spots with a free, public display under the theme "Detroit! Go for Launch!" that is built to keep families and visitors looking up all evening.
Show basics
Teaming up again with Ford Motor Company, The Parade Company says the 2026 show will mark the event’s 68th year and will feature more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects firing along the riverfront. Crowds can take it in from Hart Plaza, Belle Isle, and other downtown vantage points. Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Company, called the fireworks "one of the most spectacular shows in America and one of the largest events in the Midwest," according to CBS Detroit.
When and where to watch
The Parade Company's Rooftop Party, the group’s annual fundraiser atop the Center Garage, is scheduled from 5:30 to 11:00 p.m., according to The Parade Company. Single tickets are listed at $350, with children’s tickets for ages six and under at $125. The order information also notes limited parking passes, reserved table options, and that proceeds support the Michigan Thanksgiving Parade Foundation.
What to expect this year
Organizers say the new "Go for Launch" theme taps into hometown pride as the country marks its 250th anniversary. "The Ford Fireworks is more than just a show; it's a moment where our community comes together to celebrate Detroit," Mary Culler of Ford Philanthropy said in a statement to CBS Detroit, which also notes that the program will pack in thousands of coordinated pyrotechnic effects along the river.
Traffic, closures and safety
Heavy crowds and street closures along the riverfront are a given. The Parade Company says the City of Detroit will release detailed information on road closures, parking, and transit in mid-June and urges visitors to plan both their arrival and their getaway in advance. In past years, most riverfront parks outside official viewing zones have been restricted for safety, so decide early where you are watching and how you are getting back to your car or transit stop.
Broadcast and local programming
Staying home is still an option. Local 4 (WDIV) and 760 WJR typically carry the Ford Fireworks special, and WDIV is hosting a "Super Singer" contest that will choose finalists to perform live during the June 22 broadcast, according to ClickOnDetroit. Stations frequently stream the show online for anyone who wants the spectacle without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.
If you are heading downtown, plan ahead, arrive early for a prime waterfront spot, and keep an eye on The Parade Company’s and the City of Detroit’s official pages for final schedules, safety updates, and any weather-related changes.
