Early Friday, a violent crash tore a car apart and shut down a busy stretch of Northwest 107th Avenue in Doral, leaving at least one person dead, authorities said. The wreck closed the roadway between NW 33rd Street and NW 41st Street for hours as investigators worked the scene. Crews blocked lanes and urged drivers to steer clear of the area while they documented the crash.
Video from the scene showed a car shredded into pieces, with wreckage scattered across the asphalt and medical examiner personnel on site, according to the Miami Herald. The outlet reported the crash was called in around 2:30 a.m. and that the vehicle struck street signs before slamming into a tree. Officials had not released the identities of any victims or said how many people were inside the car.

Traffic-Homicide Team Probes Cause As Drivers Diverted
Traffic-homicide investigators typically take over fatal-crash scenes in Miami-Dade and carry out detailed on-scene work before lanes reopen, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Authorities asked motorists to avoid the impacted stretch of 107th Avenue while the investigation continues and evidence is gathered.
No additional information had been released as of Friday morning, CBS News Miami noted. Local officials had not yet said what they believe caused the crash or whether any criminal charges might be filed.
