An early morning commute on Ventura Boulevard turned tragic Tuesday when a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a sedan at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Woodman Avenue in Sherman Oaks. The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m., and emergency crews pronounced the rider dead at the scene while police and firefighters worked the wreckage.
According to ABC7 Los Angeles, aerial video from the station's AIR7 helicopter showed a white privacy canopy set up beside the sedan, with the motorcycle overturned near the car's front right panel. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told the outlet that the motorcyclist was not immediately identified at the scene. A passenger in the sedan was taken to a hospital, and their condition was not known. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The collision happened along Woodman Avenue, a corridor that has recently drawn extra scrutiny from City Hall. The City Council ordered a safety study of the street after a Transportation Committee report cited a Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division review of the area.

The report counted two fatalities, seven severe injuries and 31 hit-and-run incidents during that time. Valley Traffic Division detectives are leading the investigation and have not released additional details about what led up to Tuesday's crash.
