A man was found shot to death inside a car Thursday afternoon in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood, authorities said, marking another grim scene along East 63rd Street.
Officers discovered the victim inside a vehicle in the 1500 block of East 63rd Street, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, police found him at about 5:13 p.m. and reported that no one was in custody. Detectives have opened a homicide investigation, the outlet reported.
Recent violence in Woodlawn
The killing adds to a string of violent incidents that have shaken Woodlawn this year. On April 16, Illinois State Police troopers were involved in a deadly encounter in the neighborhood that drew significant attention. ABC7 Chicago reported on that case.
Earlier in the year, a January alley killing raised fresh questions from neighbors about how police responded to the scene. That incident was covered by CBS Chicago.
Investigation ongoing
Police have not released the victim's name, have not identified a motive and have not announced any arrests in connection with Thursday's shooting, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Detectives say the investigation remains active as they work to determine what led to the fatal attack.
