An extra-alarm fire tore through a West Englewood home early Wednesday, sending a long line of Chicago Fire Department rigs to the 6200-block of South Paulina Avenue as crews worked to pull residents out of the flames.
Chicago Fire Department reports multiple rescues
Firefighters rescued several people from the home, though officials did not immediately release information about injuries or how many people were taken to hospitals, according to ABC7 Chicago. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the outlet reported.
Extra-alarm responses on the West Side
The Paulina Avenue call comes during a spring that has already seen several large fires on Chicago’s West Side. On April 20, an extra-alarm blaze in West Garfield Park spread to multiple homes and triggered a 2-11 alarm response, according to CBS Chicago. A 2-11 alarm can bring roughly 100 firefighters and dozens of units to a single scene, underscoring how quickly residential fires can escalate on tightly packed city blocks.
Investigations and what’s next
Emergency crews remained on scene in West Englewood as investigators worked to determine how the blaze started and whether any nearby structures were affected, ABC7 Chicago reported. As of early Wednesday, officials had not provided a full update on conditions for the people who were rescued from the home.
