A stretch of High Street in Hanson turned deadly Monday evening when a pickup truck slammed into the front of a home near Holmes Street, killing a 57-year-old Hanson man and tearing open a large hole where the bay window had been. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to pull the driver from the wrecked truck, then rushed him to Brockton Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, as a heavy emergency response closed the road and locked down the scene.
Crash and rescue
According to NBC Boston, the pickup hit the home’s bay window at about 6:22 p.m. Monday. Crews arrived to find the driver unconscious inside the vehicle, and firefighters worked with hydraulic rescue tools to free him. He was the only person in the truck, and NBC Boston reports he was pronounced dead after being rushed to Brockton Hospital.
Road closure and police post
Boston 25 News says Hanson police took to Facebook asking drivers to avoid High Street between Holmes and Main while first responders worked the scene, describing the crash as shearing off the front of the home. The station identified the victim as a 57-year-old Hanson man and reported that authorities were still trying to determine whether anyone inside the house had been hurt. According to Boston 25 News, High Street remained closed around the crash site.
Investigation ongoing
NBC Boston reports that state and local police were expected to stay on scene into the night as they investigated the single-vehicle crash, and officials did not immediately say what they believed might have caused the wreck. In cases like this, investigators typically review the vehicle, the roadway and any available witness accounts while they sort out what happened.
