A man who arrived at a Tacoma hospital with a stab wound died Sunday evening, and Tacoma police have opened a homicide investigation. According to officers, unidentified people brought the victim to the facility, where he died before police could get there. Detectives later located what they described as an apparent crime scene in the 1200 block of South M Street in the Hilltop neighborhood.
What police say
According to The News Tribune, the initial report came in around 8:30 p.m., when Tacoma officers were called to a local hospital for a possible stabbing victim. Detectives are treating the case as a homicide and are canvassing the Hilltop block for evidence and witnesses.
“There are no suspects in custody at this time,” the department said in a statement, urging anyone with information to call 911, according to The News Tribune. Tacoma police have not released the victim’s identity or the name of the hospital as the investigation continues.
A neighborhood on edge
The Hilltop area has been hit with a string of violent incidents this spring, from a fatal encampment killing to a high school stabbing that left several people injured. The encampment killing and the Foss High School stabbing have added to community anxiety. Residents and community groups say the recent violence has strained public trust and fueled renewed calls for witnesses to step up.

Anyone who was in the area of the 1200 block of South M Street on Sunday evening, or who has video or other information, is urged to come forward.
