South Shore residents with a sweet tooth are in luck: Union Square Donuts is rolling into Hingham this summer, bringing its scratch-made doughnuts and full coffee program to the Derby Street Shops. The Somerville-born brand is opening its first South Shore outpost at the open-air center, where it will serve its trademark rotating flavors alongside a full lineup of drinks when doors open later in the season.
According to NBC Boston, the company teased the Hingham expansion in an Instagram post and said the Derby Street location is slated to arrive "sometime this summer." The new shop will join Union Square Donuts’ existing locations across Greater Boston.
Where It’s Going
As per Derby Street Shops, the open-air center sits just off Route 3 at 92–98 Derby St. in Hingham and includes more than 60 retailers and eateries. The complex has steadily added restaurant concepts in recent years as part of a broader push to position the plaza as a regional draw for South Shore shoppers.
What the Company Says
In a press release submitted to Hingham Anchor, Derby Street Shops said Union Square Donuts will bring its signature flavors and limited-run offerings to the shore. Co-founder Noah Danoff is quoted in the release saying, “Same product, same standards, just a new place to experience it.”
Menu and What to Expect
The Hingham shop is expected to offer the brand’s rotating doughnuts, coffee and tea, cinnamon rolls and a selection of vegan options. WhatNow reports that Derby Street specific flavors and seasonal espresso specials are also planned for the menu.
How This Fits the Chain’s Growth
Union Square Donuts launched in Somerville in 2012 and has gradually expanded its footprint across the region. Eater Boston traces the brand’s early roots, while more recent coverage, including a MarketStreet Lynnfield expansion, has followed the company’s move into shopping centers and busy neighborhoods.
What It Means for Hingham
For Hingham, the arrival adds another morning and afternoon food option within Derby Street’s open-air setting. Recent additions such as Tatte Bakery & Cafe, bartaco and sweetgreen have helped the center lean into a more food-forward identity, according to Derby Street Shops materials.
Neither Union Square Donuts nor Derby Street Shops has announced a firm opening date, saying only that more details and grand opening plans will be shared in the coming months. Fans can follow Union Square Donuts and Derby Street Shops for updates as the summer window approaches.
