A late Saturday night turned deadly at a southwest Oklahoma City park, where a person was found shot to death on a bicycle path, police said. Officers responding to a welfare call discovered the victim and pronounced them dead at the scene. The city has not released the victim's name, and no arrests have been announced.
Scene and investigation
According to KOCO, officers were called to a park near Southwest 29th Street and Independence Avenue late Saturday. Investigators found a person with a gunshot wound lying on the park’s bicycle path and pronounced the person dead at the scene, the station reports. KOCO says no arrests have been made and the victim's identity has not been released.
Southwest corridor violence
A May 11 Hoodline story, SW OKC Block Rocked, chronicled a separate southwest shooting that later turned deadly and captured neighbors' concerns about a run of gun violence along the south corridor. Residents told reporters they are worried about safety in parks and public spaces.
Another overnight shooting
KOCO also reported a separate overnight shooting at an apartment complex near Southwest 38th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue that left one person dead and another injured. Officers said that incident began as a disturbance and escalated to gunfire, and that no arrests had been announced in that case either.
