After 14 years of serving burritos to hungry students and night owls, Amelia's Taqueria has quietly shut down its Allston location on Brighton Avenue. The restaurant at 180 Brighton Ave closed on May 1, leaving a once-busy late-night staple suddenly dark and forcing loyal customers to seek out Amelia's at its other spots around Greater Boston.
According to Boston.com, a printed note taped to the front window broke the news of the permanent closure. Local food writer Daryl C. Donatelli shared a photo of the sign on X, writing in part, “And, sadly, it has closed permanently. It was wonderful while it lasted!” The storefront message thanked diners for their support and pointed them toward Amelia's remaining locations.

The Allston sign directed customers to the chain’s other Greater Boston outposts. Fire, Reopening And A Short Run
The Allston shop’s final stretch was anything but smooth. A three-alarm fire on Brighton Avenue in September 2022 forced a long closure, with firefighters responding to 180 Brighton Ave, according to Boston.com. After extensive repairs and renovations, the taqueria finally reopened in May 2025, as reported by WROR. That comeback, however, lasted less than a year before the recent shutdown.
The closure leaves a familiar Brighton Avenue storefront empty and brings an end to a long-running Allston fixture. Amelia's other locations remain in business, and the farewell note on the door signed off with thanks to customers for 14 years of support.
