Late Sunday night, a person hurled a beer keg through the front window of Georgetown Cupcake at the corner of 33rd and M streets NW, turning a quiet block into a crime scene in seconds. The gray keg blasted through the glass, shoved a shelf out of place and landed inside the bakery while employees were still working. No one was hurt, but staff were visibly shaken as police arrived around 11 p.m.

Video Shows Suspect Launch Keg Through Storefront

Surveillance footage shared by the bakery shows a man in a green T-shirt hoisting a gray keg over his head and driving it straight into the front window. The impact shatters the glass, sends shards flying, and pushes a shelving unit before the keg comes to rest on the shop floor. The clip then appears to show the suspect casually walking away from the scene. As reported by FOX 5 DC, the bakery posted the video on its social accounts in hopes that someone recognizes the man.

Police Call It Felony Destruction of Property

DC police say officers responded shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday for a report of property damage. An employee told investigators she heard the crash and immediately moved to the back of the shop for safety. According to WTOP, authorities described the suspect as a white male with brown hair, about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, wearing a green shirt and khaki pants. Police say he was last seen walking north on the 1200 block of 33rd Street after throwing the keg.

The department is investigating the case as felony destruction of property and estimates roughly $10,000 in damage to the shattered storefront window, according to WTOP.

Police Seek Tips and Neighborhood Video

Investigators are asking anyone with information or additional footage from the area to contact DC police at 202-727-9099 or reach MPD Detective Ricardo Leiva at 202-730-1903, or by email at [email protected], per reporting from FOX 5 DC.

The bakery's owners called the act "reckless, dangerous, and completely unacceptable" and noted that cameras and witnesses were present. Georgetown Cupcake said it planned to reopen later in the day while detectives review video and canvass nearby businesses and residents for leads.
