
A late-night fight near Helelua Street in Waianae has Honolulu police trying to piece together what happened after reports of possible gunfire and a crowd that vanished before officers arrived.
HPD says officers were dispatched around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday for a “large fight” and potential shots fired in the area. By the time they got there, the crowd was gone. Investigators later found evidence suggesting someone may have been hurt, and the case remains under active investigation.

As reported by Hawaii News Now, officers responded at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday to calls about a large fight and possible gunshots near Helelua Street. By the time police reached the scene, everyone involved had already dispersed. According to the outlet, investigators later located evidence indicating someone may have been injured, and they continue to probe the area and circumstances.

Public incident records from the City and County of Honolulu list an entry for the 870100 block of Helelua Street on May 26, which lines up with the reported disturbance. Waianae's recent violence
The late-night fight is the latest in a string of violent incidents on Oahu’s west side in recent years. In May 2025, three people were charged in a Makaha shooting that left one person dead and four others wounded, according to Hawaii News Now. Local reporting also highlighted a December 2024 Waianae shooting that hospitalized a 19-year-old, per 19-year-old hospitalized.
