Police say a Manchester man was arrested in connection with an April 29, 2026 shooting that sent bullets into a multi-family home. The gunfire went through an occupied bedroom and came close to residents inside, including sleeping children.
Arrest And Charges
Massachusetts State Police arrested 24-year-old Justin Salinas of Manchester, according to WHDH. He faces charges of attempted first-degree assault, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon, and is being held in Massachusetts while authorities work to extradite him back to New Hampshire.
Where And When It Happened
Manchester police responded to a ShotSpotter activation and multiple 911 calls around 10 p.m. on April 29 at the intersection of Hanover Street and Beech Street, according to Newport Dispatch. Officers later found that a nearby Amherst Street building had been struck by gunfire, and investigators determined that one round entered an occupied room in the house. No one inside was hit.
How Investigators Say It Unfolded
Witnesses told investigators that the intended victim had agreed to meet others for a fight, then walked toward the agreed-upon location, WHDH reports. A vehicle allegedly pulled up, two people got out and opened fire, and the targeted person ran off without being struck. According to WHDH, one of the bullets went into a bedroom where two children were sleeping.
Second Suspect Sought
Manchester police have identified a second suspect as 21-year-old Henry Aponte, who faces attempted first-degree assault and reckless conduct charges, according to Newport Dispatch. Anyone with information about Aponte's whereabouts is asked to call Manchester Police at 603-668-8711.
What Happens Next In Court
Authorities say Salinas will be brought back to New Hampshire for prosecution once extradition is complete. The charges he faces are felony-level offenses that carry significant prison time if he is convicted. The shooting remains under investigation, and police have not released any information about a possible motive or about weapons that may have been recovered.
