
A late-night walk on Poplar Avenue turned deadly early Saturday when a man was hit and killed near Brookhaven Circle in East Memphis, according to police. Officers were called to the scene around 1 a.m. and found the pedestrian with injuries that proved fatal. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators quickly locked down the area to begin their work.
Police say the vehicle involved did not leave. The driver stayed on Poplar while officers and traffic investigators documented the crash.
According to FOX13 Memphis, Memphis Police confirmed the collision happened on Poplar near Brookhaven Circle and that the driver remained at the scene. FOX13 reported that the department's traffic investigators have opened a case and that officials have not released additional details.
Poplar's recent pedestrian crashes
This is not the first time Poplar Avenue has seen a deadly encounter between cars and people on foot this spring. On March 31, a woman died after being struck by a vehicle in East Memphis, as reported by Action News 5.
