An unmarked Chicago Police Department squad car was rammed Thursday night on the West Side after a minivan suddenly stopped, threw it in reverse, and plowed into the vehicle near Douglass Park, according to police. An assisting officer was taken to the hospital with blunt trauma to the left leg, and three people who tried to run for it were taken into custody, authorities said.

As reported by ABC7 Chicago, the crash unfolded around 8:46 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Ogden Avenue. Police said an unmarked CPD vehicle, emergency lights activated, was following a minivan driven by a 27-year-old man when the minivan stopped, reversed, and slammed into the squad car. The minivan then came to a stop near the 1600 block of South California Avenue, where three suspects tried to bolt but were detained, according to police. The assisting officer was hospitalized in fair condition after suffering blunt trauma to the left leg.
