Portland detectives have arrested 36-year-old John A. Knight in connection with an April assault in the 2800 block of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, bringing a monthlong investigation to a head. Knight was taken to the Multnomah County Jail and booked on an assault charge, police said. The victim in the April attack suffered injuries to his shoulder, knee and hand.
What police say
According to KATU, detectives with Portland Police’s Major Crime Unit arrested Knight on May 13 and booked him into the Multnomah County Jail. The station reports that investigators publicly thanked community members for the tips that helped them track down the suspect.
Where he was booked
Knight was processed at the Multnomah County Detention Center, the county’s primary booking and release facility at 1120 SW Third Avenue in downtown Portland, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The corrections division notes that custody details and visiting rules are handled through the county’s detention web pages.
Injuries and investigation
KATU reports that the victim in the April incident sustained injuries to his shoulder, knee and hand; police have not released further identifying information. Detectives say the Major Crime Unit’s investigation is still active and that more details will be released as they move through additional investigative steps.
Legal note
Police emphasized that an arrest and booking do not establish guilt. Knight is entitled to an arraignment, and any formal charges would be handled by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. Officers asked anyone with information about the April assault to contact the Portland Police Bureau with tips.
