New York’s Black Star Bakery & Cafe, the mini-chain known for its oversized croissants and viral coffee drinks, is gearing up for its first-ever location outside the Empire State, landing in downtown Boca Raton this spring. The outpost is slated for Royal Palm Place, near SE First Street and Plaza Real South, putting its espresso program and bakery sandwiches right on the busy downtown dining strip. When it finally opens, the shop will be the company’s sixth branch overall and a rare out-of-state move for the brand.
According to Miami New Times, founders Dan and Odehel Magor opened the first Black Star in Williamsburg in 2014, then steadily expanded across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. The outlet reports that the chain has been posting construction photos from inside the Boca space and that the owners have floated a 2026 opening timeline. Miami New Times also notes that the company refers to each shop as a “branch” and works to tailor each interior to its specific neighborhood.
Local outlet Boca Daily News backs up the Royal Palm Place address and lays out what Boca diners can expect on the menu. Staples are set to include bagel and croissant sandwiches filled with egg, smoked salmon or avocado, plus a rotation of heartier specials like a breakfast burrito, a Belgian waffle and a sriracha-scrambled-egg plate, all supported by a full espresso and iced-drink lineup. The paper notes that no official opening date has been announced yet.
Design And What To Expect
The company’s own site, Black Star Bakery, describes a bakery-first menu served in “branch”-style cafés meant to feel embedded in their neighborhoods, with airy interiors, large windows and outdoor seating where possible. The website currently lists five New York addresses, underscoring how the Boca branch will extend the brand’s reach beyond its home base. Owners Dan and Odehel Magor, with Odehel serving as the architect behind the interiors, have been photographed working inside the Boca space, according to the company and local coverage.
What This Means For Downtown Boca
Industry and neighborhood coverage has been casting downtown Boca as a dining scene on the rise this year, with a wave of new cafés and bakeries on the way. The Boca Raton Observer lists Black Star among several arrivals expected in the spring season. For now, Black Star has not pinned down a public opening date and is using its social media feeds to share in-progress construction shots, so locals will likely be watching the brand’s announcements and Royal Palm Place tenant updates for the official word.
