A pre-dawn commute in west Phoenix turned deadly Thursday when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Valley Metro bus on a Loop 202 on-ramp, according to Phoenix police.
The collision happened just before 5 a.m. on a southbound Loop 202 (South Mountain) on-ramp near 59th Avenue and Van Buren Street, and crews shut down lanes while investigators worked the scene.
As reported by Arizona's Family, officers were called shortly before 5 a.m. to the on-ramp at 59th Avenue and Van Buren for a crash involving a pedestrian. Crews at the scene confirmed the collision was fatal, and police said the victim has not yet been identified.
Officials restricted southbound 59th Avenue and closed the adjacent on-ramp and eastbound Van Buren as investigators documented the scene. It was not immediately clear whether there were any passengers on the bus at the time of the crash.
