Cyclist Safety And State Crash Numbers
The Arizona Department of Transportation's annual crash reports show bicyclist fatalities fell in 2023 and held roughly steady in 2024, even as overall traffic deaths across the state remain near historic highs. Crash Ripples Through Sky Harbor Traffic
Crews from Arizona's Family on scene reported that freight trucks and Waymo vehicles were forced to make U-turns to get around the closure, backing up traffic on nearby access roads. The shutdown affected both commercial and autonomous vehicle traffic around the airport property.
Police Still Probing Fatal Collision
Phoenix police said they have not released additional details about what led to the crash, and the investigation remains active. The department has not announced any citations or charges in connection with the collision.
