
Southwest Memphis residents woke up to the sound of gunfire early Friday after shots rang out in the 4300 block of Hawkeye Street just after 4:50 a.m., according to police. Officers said they could not immediately determine who pulled the trigger or whether anyone was hurt.
What the police said
Responding officers were called to the area on a report of shots fired and found evidence confirming a shooting had taken place. Investigators have released only limited information while the case is still active, according to WREG.

Hawkeye Street's recent history
This stretch of Hawkeye Street has seen gunfire before. In 2022, Action News 5 highlighted surveillance video that captured suspects running along Hawkeye after a Westwood Park shooting. In a separate 2019 case, a woman who fired into a home on the same block was reported by WFTV.
