A pre-dawn shooting in San Francisco’s Sunset District left one person dead today, after emergency crews found the victim near 46th Avenue and Ulloa Street and pronounced them dead at the scene.
The San Francisco Fire Department said responders were sent to 46th Avenue, near Ulloa Street, just before 5:30 AM. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead where they were found, according to CBS San Francisco. The initial report did not identify the victim or mention any suspect, and authorities had released few details when the story was first reported.
Investigation And City Context
The killing comes during an early-2026 rise in homicides following a notably quiet 2025. SFist reported that San Francisco was averaging nearly one homicide per week in the first months of 2026, and the San Francisco Chronicle noted that overall gunfire incidents have declined even as a greater share of shootings have been fatal this year.
San Francisco police had not publicly identified a suspect or announced any arrests as of the initial reports, according to CBS San Francisco. Detectives are continuing to investigate, and authorities say they expect to release more information as the case moves forward.
