An early-morning burst of gunfire in the Walker Homes neighborhood of south Memphis sent a woman to the hospital Saturday, adding to a growing list of shootings tied to the complex this year. Police say her injuries are non-critical.
Police Response and Shooting Scene
Memphis police officers were called out around 4 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of Elder Road near West Mitchell Road, where they found an adult woman who was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition, according to Action News 5. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects or suggested a motive.
Officers and crime scene crews stayed on Elder Road after daybreak, canvassing the area for witnesses and any security video that might help them piece together what happened.
Walker Homes’ Recent Violence
Saturday’s shooting is the latest in a string of gun violence incidents connected to Walker Homes this year. In February, authorities arrested a 17-year-old after a 14-year-old girl was shot in the neck, according to reporting from Hoodline.
Law enforcement has also focused on Elder Road itself as part of broader crime-fighting efforts. The Memphis SAFE Task Force has executed warrants and recovered weapons in the area, according to a release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
