Late Friday afternoon, traffic near one of Slidell's busiest interstate exits slowed for something far worse than the usual backup: a shooting that left one person with a graze wound and a commercial corridor swarmed with police.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Voters Road and Old Spanish Trail, blocking off the area while investigators processed the scene and redirected drivers away from the stretch.
According to a post from the Slidell Police Department on Facebook, investigators said the single victim "appears to have suffered a graze wound" and added that "more information will be provided at a later date." The department asked people to avoid the area while officers worked.
Where It Happened
The shooting unfolded at an intersection that hugs a service road beside I-10 and a commercial strip dotted with hotels, shops, and other businesses feeding into Old Spanish Trail. A land listing describes Voters Road as the commercial service road adjacent to I-10 exit 263, highlighting how busy that corridor can be, according to Louisiana Site Selection.
Police Response
As of the department's Friday post, officers remained on scene, and no arrests or suspect descriptions had been released. The agency said it would provide more details when available and again urged drivers and residents to steer clear of the area while investigators worked, according to the Facebook post.
