Two people were arrested Sunday afternoon after San Antonio police say a quick-hit shoplifting attempt on the North Side turned violent and left a 39-year-old clerk assaulted behind the counter.

According to WOAI, the confrontation unfolded just before 12:30 p.m. at a business off San Pedro Avenue near Westwood Drive. Police said a man and a woman walked in, grabbed multiple items and tried to walk out without paying, allegedly attacking the clerk when she intervened. Officers later spotted the pair near Hildebrand Avenue and San Pedro Avenue and took them into custody as detectives opened a robbery investigation. Authorities have not yet detailed the clerk’s injuries or specified the charges the suspects may face while the probe continues.

Similar robberies have drawn police attention

This is not the only time a San Antonio clerk has been caught in the middle of a violent stickup this year. In mid May, police arrested a suspect in a case where a store worker was pistol-whipped during a dispensary robbery, according to KSAT. Back in February, officers investigated a separate South Side holdup in which shots were fired, earlier coverage from KSAT reported. Officials say cases like these keep the Robbery Task Force busy and are a big reason they urge businesses to preserve video and report every incident, no matter how small it might seem in the moment.

How to share tips

Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the latest North Side case to contact the San Antonio Robbery Task Force at 210-207-0300 or call the department’s non-emergency line. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 210‑224‑STOP (7867). The City of San Antonio outlines how to upload video and provide a case number when filing a tip, and additional contact options are listed on the San Antonio Police Department site.

Investigators have not released the suspects’ names or their formal charges and said they will share more information as the case develops, according to WOAI. This story will be updated if SAPD releases additional details.
