Charlotte-Mecklenburg police descended on the First Ward Park Apartments in Uptown Charlotte yesterday after a reported shooting at the complex on East 8th Street. MEDIC crews told reporters that one person suffered serious injuries and said the gunfire may have been accidental. Investigators said the case remains active and, as initial reports came in, had not released any additional details.
According to WCCB, the call centered on East 8th Street at the First Ward Park Apartments, where law enforcement and medical crews continued working the scene. WCCB’s Morgan Fogarty reported that MEDIC confirmed one person with serious injuries and described the shooting as possibly accidental.
Uptown’s Recent Pattern
The incident lands in the middle of a rough spring for Uptown gunfire. Earlier this season, a pre-dawn Uptown shooting on March 31 near West Fifth Street and North Clarkson Street left another person seriously hurt, and WBTV reported that a late March enforcement sweep led to 18 arrests and 11 guns taken off the streets as officers stepped up overnight traffic stops. Residents and business owners have said those recent cases have brought extra attention to patrols in the First Ward area.
If You Saw Something
So far, officials have not announced any arrests in connection with Thursday’s shooting. They are asking anyone who might have information to contact CMPD or submit an anonymous tip to Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. The Crime Stoppers tip line and contact details are posted on the CMPD website. Reporters and city officials said they plan to share updates as investigators release more information.
What’s Next
Detectives are expected to process the scene and review any available surveillance footage and witness accounts as part of the ongoing investigation. This story will be updated when CMPD or MEDIC issue formal statements or if any charges are filed. WCCB continues to report from the scene as the case develops.
