A Monday night argument near the Grant Park skate area ended in a stabbing that sent a 24-year-old man to the hospital and rattled South Loop regulars who frequent the busy stretch of South Michigan Avenue.
The confrontation unfolded on the 1100 block of South Michigan Avenue, near the park’s skate spot, where the victim got into a dispute with a group of four people. According to ABC7 Chicago, one member of the group pulled a knife and stabbed the man in the back before all four took off.
The victim managed to get away from the fight, and Chicago Fire Department medics treated a cut to his back before taking him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Officers were later seen canvassing the area around the skate park, but no arrests were reported at the scene, and police have not yet released suspect descriptions or a possible motive.
Detectives from Area Three have opened an investigation into the attack.
Grant Park Has Seen Other Stabbings
This is not the first time violence has spilled into Grant Park. In June 2025, a confrontation at the skate area left three people injured, according to NBC Chicago. A separate April 24, 2026, stabbing seriously injured a man, per CBS Chicago, and a 2020 stabbing on the same 1100 block of South Michigan Avenue turned fatal, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Those incidents have fueled ongoing concerns about what happens around the park’s pathways and skate area after dark, when crowds thin out and trouble can move in fast.
