A south Forsyth neighborhood is reeling after a man was shot multiple times inside a home on Shiloh Road on Wednesday night, leaving him in critical condition and his roommate in handcuffs less than a day later. Deputies identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jose Luis Delgado Mendoza, and say the case remains an active investigation. The victim’s name has not been released.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Forsyth County deputies rushed to the Shiloh Road home shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday after a 911 call and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies gave medical aid at the scene until the victim could be taken to a hospital. Detectives, the fugitive unit and other sheriff’s office staff then spent the night tracking Mendoza and located him late Thursday morning near Redi Road, the outlet reported.
Arrest and charges
Mendoza is charged with aggravated assault and is being held at the Forsyth County Jail. The sheriff’s office has signaled that additional charges could be added as the investigation moves forward. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security notified detectives that Mendoza, 35, does not appear to be in the country legally, and federal authorities have opened an inquiry into his immigration status while he remains jailed, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
“I am extremely proud of the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication displayed by everyone involved,” Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a statement.

Officials have not released the victim’s name or given any update beyond saying he remains in critical care. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office continues to hold suspects at the county jail in Cumming and is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators, according to details shared with local reporters.
