An ordinary late-night stop near a Stonecrest gas station turned into a life-or-death emergency early Saturday when a man was shot and left in critical condition, according to DeKalb County police.
Officers were called around 1:05 a.m. to Tiburon Drive, where they found the wounded man after he went there to call 911. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. The victim told investigators he had been shot outside a gas station on the 5900 block of Fairington Road, less than a mile from where officers found him.
According to Atlanta News First, the man was suffering from a gunshot wound when officers arrived on Tiburon Drive and was taken for emergency treatment. Police have not released any suspect description, and no arrests have been announced as the investigation continues.
Where This Happened and the Local Pattern
The Fairington Road corridor has seen multiple shootings in recent weeks, raising fresh safety concerns for residents and business owners who live and work nearby. FOX 5 Atlanta reported an April shooting in the same 5900 block that left two men injured. More recently, a DeKalb gas station turned crime scene was among a string of gas-station shootings in Stonecrest this spring. Those earlier reports show investigators often leaning on surveillance footage and community tips to move cases forward.
Police Ask for Tips
The DeKalb County Police Department is urging anyone with information, video, or photos related to this latest shooting to submit anonymous tips through its Tip411 system by texting DKPD to 847411 or using the department’s online form, per the DeKalb County website. For immediate emergencies, authorities continue to remind the public to call 911.
What’s Next
Detectives are canvassing the area and reviewing available footage as they work to nail down a timeline of what happened. For now, there is no known motive and no identified suspect, Atlanta News First reports. This remains a developing story as investigators follow up on leads.
